This the most asked question in all of history, the simple answer is you don't. If you continue reading you'll find out. Lets being shall we? First, the term Moderator is very vague, there are a few different kind of moderator and this guide will go over all of them, but before I do, begging for mod will get you nowhere.
First of all, you'll need to learn about our hierarchy.
Dodian ( Owner )
Adminstrators
Global Moderators
Player Moderators
Forum Moderators
Sectional Moderators
Alright, so now you know a little bit about our chain of command.
We'll start off with sectional moderators..:
This is for people who are active in one part of the forum. The sectional moderators moderate a certain section of the forum. A sectional moderator is often knowledgeable in his forum and is active and helpful in it. He answers all posts with respect and understandable grammar, he doesn't spam / flame and tries his best even if he doesn't know the answer. To become a Sectional moderator you must report all posts in that specific forum and be active, knowledgeable, and well learned in the subject. A sectional moderator has the powers of an FMod in his section, and minor FMod powers in other sections.
Next is our forum moderators...:
Forum moderators basically keep our forums clean from all types of spam whether it being bots advertising, to one player insulting another player. They enforce the rules via the forum and they follow the rules strictly in-game, they will be de-modded even if they break a rule in-game. They have the powers to close threads, open threads, merge threads, delete threads, copy threads, sticky threads, and un-stick threads in every section of the forum that is visible to them. Forum moderators contribute a ton to the website.
Next we will discuss player moderators, what most of you want.
This is one of the "Most Wanted" positions on this server, seeing as you get a free silver crown, but it's not all as great as you'd think it is. It will give you a buzz when you first get it but you'll have to devote more time to the game, and more time helping rather than playing the game. If you'd like to become a player moderator or if you are a player moderator.
First of all you'll need to follow the rules STRICTLY, breaking of any of the rules will result in you being punished or possibly de-modded, depending on the severity of the offense.
You'll need to report players in-game, a ton. You can also report via forums if you'd like to get noticed a bit more, or if a moderator is not in-game or able to help you. Your reports must be legit.
One of the key points is you must be online for at least 3 hours a day, usually longer if you ever even are thinking of being promoted.
You'll also need to help people constantly, clear the report a rule breaker section, and if you aren't a player moderator you'll need to do all this, and most of all get noticed without sucking up.
Player moderators have the power to kick players, teleport to players, trade-lock players, mute players, and report players.
Next we'll go with global moderators...:
Global Moderators are one of the highest ranks you can earn on Dodian, but it's also one of the hardest and most stressful ranks to deal with. It's not much but it can get to you sometimes. You have all the powers of forum moderators and player moderators, you have to deal with the forums and in-game for at least 3 hours a day, but usually for a global moderator a better standard would be 5 hours a day.
Global moderators must be active in IRC, forums, and in-game and you must also achieve player moderator, or forum moderator first, you can skip player moderator if you're a forum moderator. You must be highly regarded as a person who does their job very well.
Global moderators have the power to ban players and also have all the powers of player moderators and forum moderators, and are able to reset and stop the server.
Other ranks
The owner is the person who made this game, Dodian. Root administrators have the power to do anything, and the difference from administrators is that they can spawn and deal with premium issues. ( Most administrators now have powers to deal with premium refunding. ) He rules you.
Administrators are the rank after Global moderators, you must be VERY active everywhere, become a global moderator first, and do everything else. I am not an administrator therefore only an administrator can give their view on this. I know their powers enable them to view the ACP ( Admin Control Panel ) which controls our site. You must be trusted by Dodian himself and the Dodian community to become an administrator. You have the power to do everything besides spawn items.
IRC Operators - We used to have a rank for most ex-administrators, or members who have tons of experience on it, such as Zeus ( He's a god you know ). Since then that rank has been removed, basically if you're good enough on IRC or a staff member you'll get a permanent rank
There are a few different ranks.
Voice - There is a [+] next to your name, it gives you no powers besides when the channel is muted you can talk and be heard, if you are active on IRC the [+] could lead to halfop.
Half-Operator - Also known as Halfop, it gives you a [%] next to your name, you have the powers to ban but not kick and can lead to operator.
Operator - Also known as OP, there is a [@] next to your name. You have the power to ban, kick, set modes on the channel, and do many other things, you can expand those powers with scripts.
IRCop - Operator all over IRC, you have powers to do practically anything. Your symbol is represented by a [~], administrators and highly respected and trusted ex-administrators or members get this rank.
Well, there's my explanation on becoming a moderator and dealing with it.
Here are some side notes..:
ModCP - Available to player moderators and higher ranks, you can view inventories, equipment, banks, players positions, reports, and some other things I cannot say.
If you are a player moderator or higher, you'll be slammed with questions, requests, and suck-ups in-game.
If you ever decide you want to become a player moderator here are some tips...:
Level up before you try to become one, if you don't you won't have too much time to level...I learned the hard way.
Do not suck-up to moderators or administrators, you'll be looked down upon.
Do not ask for moderator or imply that you want to become one in anyway, you'll be looked down upon.
Well, one last tip from Dodian himself..
Almost all moderators have made their way up the ranks through IRC, and eventually attained mod position through IRC. IRC chat is a great way to meet the staff and other players of the game in a less formal environment. Thanks for reading, and good luck.
