1970 Decade project
The years between 1970 and 1979 are considered the turning point of the nation. The nation went through many government changes, scandals, music tragedies, and terrorists attacks, and the Vietnam war which has changed our nation to what it is today.
The year 1970 had two events that really caught my interest was the Beatles breakup, and the black September terrorists attacks. The Beatles band broke up for unknown reasons but many people believe that yoko ohno had a hand in helping to breakup the Beatles. In the terrorists attacks group black September hijacked five airliners in exchange for prisoners but there demands were not met.
The year 1972 was one of the biggest year for the 1970’s because of the Watergate scandal which dealt with republicans and democrats receiving money illegal money from companies such as carnation, gulf, and many more companies. Another major event that occurred in 1972 was the terrorist attack on the Munich Olympic games where 4 athletes were takes hostage while three others were killed.
The year 1973 was mainly about the U.S.A pulling out of Vietnam due to the Paris peace accords which required the withdrawal of all remaining American troops. When the treaty was signed all Americans evacuated Vietnam.
The year 1974 was one of governmental change and foreign discovery. President Nixon resigned over a television/radio broadcast and Nixon is the first president to ever resign out of office. Discovery was made in china when an army of terracotta soldiers are found by farmers looking for ground water, and after closer look of the soldiers all the faces and body types were different.
The year 1977 marked the death of a well known rock legend know as Elvis Aaron Presley who was found in his mansion on the toilet, and the cause of death was suspected to be drug overdose.
The years 1978 to 1979 were years of celebration and sorrow. In 1978 the first test tube baby was born in great Brittan and she was named Louise joy brown. In 1979 Iranian terrorists also know as “black September” hijack airliners with hostages.
The decade I chose was 1970 to 1979 and I feel that I could not of chosen better for my project because the 70’s were a time for government, discovery, and music and I believe our government and our nation would not be where it is today if most of these if not few had not of happened.
