I am about 1/3 done my essay, and I thought I would share some of it with you.
The topic is "Is Macbeth A tragic Hero?"
Keep in mind, this is the outline.
Criticize if you have ever written an essay, if you haven't and don't know how to write an essay, I suggest getting off this topic.
Macbeth Essay outline
1st Paragraph
Topic Sentence: A tragic hero is defined by The Canadian Oxford Dictionary, as a literary character who makes an error of judgment or has a fatal flaw that, combined with fate and external forces, brings on a tragedy.
Thesis: Macbeth was a tragic hero, because he made 3 fatal flaws: Listening to the prophecies told by the weird sisters, allowing his mind to be corrupted by Lady Macbeth, and his by letting his trust in others get the better of him.
2nd Paragraph
Macbeth was obviously a great man. He was Thane of Glamis and was given the title Thane of Cawdor early in the play. Macbeth was given the prophecies by the witches and being human he strongly is interested in the outcome of the prophecies. Through the duration of the play, Macbeth strongly becomes interested in what the witches had to say, and eventually decided to make those prophecies come true. These predictions influence Macbeths Ego basically informing himself that he cannot be touched.
“Be bloody, bold, and resolute; laugh to scorn
the power of man, for none of woman born
shall harm Macbeth.”
(Scene 4, Act 1 lines 86-88)
This was one of the predictions Macbeth was given. For none of woman born shall harm Macbeth symbolizes that anyone born from a woman cannot harm him, basically giving Macbeth Immunity from being harmed in anyway. Macbeth strongly believed in this prophecy, which lead to his death, when he realized Macduff was born from a caesarean section.
Lady Macbeth was an important factor in shaping Macbeths decisions. Lady Macbeth was very persuasive with her words, and was the reason why Macbeth finally decided to kill Duncan. Lady Macbeth was quite obviously an evil person, who only set out to follow her goals, and won’t stop until she has achieved them. Lady Macbeth conned Macbeth into killing Duncan by questioning his manhood.
“What beast was't, then,
That made you break this enterprise to me?
When you durst do it, then you were a man;
And, to be more than what you were, you would
Be so much more the man. Nor time nor place
Did then adhere, and yet you would make both:
They have made themselves, and that their fitness now
Does unmake you. I have given suck, and know
How tender 'tis to love the babe that milks me:
I would, while it was smiling in my face,
Have pluck'd my nipple from his boneless gums,
And dash'd the brains out, had I so sworn as you
Have done to this.”
(Act 1, Scene 7, Lines 52-64)
Lady Macbeth convinced Macbeth with that quote, by questioning his manhood, and saying that if she were a man, she would kill Duncan, so there’s no reason why Macbeth doesn’t kill Duncan. Macbeth made the tragic error in listening to Lady Macbeth, and that also contributed to his downfall.
