What good is a Crystal Shield?

It gives Good Defense, Requires no Defense level and Doesn't Lower Range or Mage.

Just to clear this up for sure i looked and both require only 1 def.
Crystal is a little bit worse than god against melee (barely) but is a lot better in def against range.
