Ahh yes. I heard of this. My brother's computer was very unfortunate and received this horrid virus and had to reboot his computer.

Apparently, Norton is giving out a free thirty day trial of their new anti-virus that supposedly protects people's computers from this. According to BBC, it will attack over 20M computers in the US and re update itself to make itself much harder to get rid of. This is supposed to happen tomorrow (1st of April). At first, I thought this was some BS April fool's joke, but it ain't.

Added news links. Changed the title so it actually tells you what the thread will be about.

They have something called an Ethernet cord that goes into your PC! How about you live without internet for 2-3 days after release. Also its for XP - SP Vista already has a service patch. SO ;)

It simple actually. Remove all your Guest\un-password accounts. Give all your accounts restricted PC permission. Remove sharing folders of any sort. This includes torrents ect... Then around midnight or so, start running a scan of your PC. AVG actually has the access to remove it.. Its all a bunch of huh-ha! Its a worm, not the worst virus. (Well it kinda is) It's not strong, what lets them get access to your computer is weak security.

Conficker.C Worm - Major Attack targeted to start on April Fools Day - Calendar Of Updates

The Conficker worm is one of the most dangerous malware threats in years, especially for corporate users. A new "C" variant has been developed that's even more potent and stealthier than the two prior variants. It's imperative that Microsoft's MS08-067 patch be applied to all servers and workstations, while the worm is currently dormant.

If it establishes a foothold anywhere in the network, it can even spread to systems that are patched with the MS08-067, if they are insecure in other areas, (i.e., it uses multiple attack methods).

Please take precautions now, as this one will be even more difficult than "B" was to clean.

http://www.ca.com/us/securityadvisor....aspx?id=77976

QUOTE: Just when you might have thought it was safe to start using USB flash drives at work again, the third, and by all accounts, most fiendish version of the Conficker worm that's infected millions of PCs already is set to attack on April 1st, Ars Technica reports. Conficker.C's designed to hide itself even more thoroughly than its older siblings Conficker.A and Conficker.B, using tricks such as:

• Inserting itself into as many as five Windows-related folders such as System, Movie Maker, Internet Explorer, and others (under a random name, of course)
• Creating access control entries and locking the file(s)
• Registers dummy services using a "one (name) from column A, one from column B, and two from column C" method
To find out what happens when Conficker.C strikes, join us after the jump.

Conficker.C's payload makes it harder than ever to recover from being infected:

• Deactivates Windows Security Center notifications
• Prevents restart in Safe Mode
• Prevents Windows Defender from running at system startup
• Deletes all system restore points
• Disables various error-reporting and security services
• Terminates over twenty security-related processes
• Blocks DNS queries
• Blocks access to security and antivirus websites
• And, to top it all off, Conficker.C can choose from a list of 500 domains to contact out of a pool of 50,000 (way up from Conficker.B's 32 out of 250).

Conficker.C - Detailed Evaluation by SRI
An ****ysis of Conficker C

QUOTE: Variant C represents the third major revision of the Conficker malware family, which first appeared on the Internet on 20 November 2008. C distinguishes itself as a significant revision to Conficker B. In fact, we estimate that C leaves as little as 15% of the original B code base untouched

Norton is the biggest piece of **** antivirus, right next to Mcafee. Your best bet would be using programs like Spybot Search and Destroy, Avast!, NOD32, BitDefender, Microsoft Baseline Defender, or any other anti-virus that has no affiliation with Norton or Mcafee.

But I have lots of protection.

The only way the virus can get onto your computer is if you open a certain file or get it off the internet. It can't just randomly pop up on your computer if you just in the desktop. Just get protection and be safe, or just don't get on your computers at mid-night.

Are you dumb? If your worried about it. Shut your internet off for 2-4 days. Then sit back and wait. Do something out side.

It's more centralized in Africa and Asia. As it has previously stated.

It's a worm, it can to. It can come from just getting cookies from a site. Worms are much different then Trojans and other virus's.

Actually it runs off svchost.exe. So it can access your computer through any of those that are running. I have non, gladly.

And Sherpa, Don't use Norton.
Norton will probably help the virus tbh.
What Norton will probably do is: 'TehSeckz:"Oh! you need help finding windows system32 folder? Look its right here silly-silly you"

Download Avast... It already has a block off for this Virus.
This was on its update today as well: April 1st is a date often targeted by the creators of malware and this year will be no exception. However,if your computer's operating system and your avast! antivirus are up to date, the risk is very small.

Guys, the best way to protect yourself is to try and not give out any personal information on the internet.

So, say like your trying to make a paypal account. I would advise not to as conflicker is going to steal your name, bank information, ect., and more than likely sell it or use it for there own needs.

I would advise all of you to go on and watch the news everyday and listen to the radio so that you'll be able to keep up with the attacks.

Yea I hooked up one of my old computers and took off all security and all the firewalls waiting for the virus to come and I was going to try and stop it, and save it then block all incoming ports. I wanted to have a copy of it so I could manipulate it however I wanted. Well it ran through my computer faster than I could catch. I downloaded it and it was too late already. I never even had to open the fire folder it was suppose to be in. It's a bad little worm. And the news and many other sources have quoted that the virus did not do a full scale attack on April 1st because of all the media it got. They are saying be prepared for it to hit at anytime now.

OK guys, I have AVG, Its free mostly but you can get advanced. There is this computer maniac guy I know and he says AVG~ the way to go. But you all have your choices. But just saying McAfee is better than Norton By a MILE, Our Desktop has Norton, and we got a different virus. And couldnt take it off. But somehow i got the same thing on my laptop and I could take it off easy. Anyhow Click HERE FOR THE AVG SITE (http://free.avg.com/)

Works for me. Just watch out for Conflicker, its really nasty. But just dont panic, get good protection. And ALWAYS WATCH WHAT U DOWNLOAD.

There are also some rumors that some fake junk p o r n sites send those viruses automatically. Just watch out what you do on your computer and you should be good.

Okay, Confliker is a virus that will destroy your computer, Whatever you download make sure u virus scan it. You can usually do that. by right clicking on the file and then clicking, Virus Scan it Using this picture.
