My question to you all is WHAT HAPPENED TO RAP/HIP-HOP?!

Old rap had meaning. Most old rap songs were knowledgeable.

Now most rap is about getting drunk/high and having ***. Whoopie,IT HAPPENS EVERY DAY,GET THE **** OVER IT!

New rap is about having ***,getting girls, doing drugs, and getting money.

Old rap was about gang wars, politics, being with friends, shooting, ect. and even if they were about women, they had more taste than just getting drunk and having a one-night-stand.

New rap is mostly '04 and up.

Let's take a couple example of GOOD rap/hip-hop songs.

One Mic by Nas (2002)
Bust a Move by Young MC (1989)
This Is How We Do It by Montell Jordan (1995)
Gangster Paradise by Coolio (1995)
Doin' It by LL Cool J (1996) (not the best example though, rofl)
R U Still Down? by Tupac (1997) (Also one of the 3 rap/hip-hop gods)
Big Poppa by The Notorious B.I.G. (1994) (The second rap/hip-hop god)

All great hip-hop songs. Then I won't bother to name specific bad new songs. I'll just name some artists.

Lil' Wayne
T-Pain
T.I.
Three Six Mafia
Project Pat

Though I understand there are still some legitimate artists left, and that some of these artists named have some good songs, you get my point.

This is my opinion, don't flame me for it. I ask for your opinion about hip-hop/rap nowadays, not about your opinion on my opinion.

That's one reason why I don't listen to rap. I prefer Punk\Rock.

He found his peace along time before he passed. Now is it a crime to fight for what we love?

I listen to rap. I like to listen to eminem mostly because he doesnt rap much about what he has but how he came up and if it is about drugs or girls its funny as hell and he just puts a twist in it that makes it easy to listen to.

This is the most stupidest thread of all time. Rap hasn't changed at all. You just fail. Today's rap is the same as back in the 1990s. Example: Tupac, Best rapper.
He sang about his life, struggling in the hood, being around gangs, drugs and violence. Alot of songs that come out now are the same.

Lil Wayne- Prom Queen. That song is about how every one in highschool thought he was nothing, now look at him. Making millions of dollars, best rapper alive. Birdman gave him a chance to rap and turned him into the best rapper alive.

Eminem- Raps about his life and again how he had nothing and now has everything he wants.

Rap isn't all about violence, drugs and gang life.
Half the rappers now came from all of that, and tell there stories through music and people respect that because they tell the truth.

I always listen to the lyrics. Now let's look at a quote from the first post.

Though I understand there are still some legitimate artists left, and that some of these artists named have some good songs, you get my point.

I'm not angry with you though, you have your opinion and I have mine, right?

First about Tupac dead, I won't enter in this discussion but if you ever loved tupac a bit, You should know how he is supposed to be dead and you should also know that he obviously ain't dead. But Blub klub, I've give you the fact that old school rap doesn't sound same as "new" rap, but when you say they don't talk about shooting & gangs it's so much wrong, because they sing way more about that, and the explanation to the rappers who talk about womens and 1 night things and etc. is just evolution. And also, there is way more rappers now than 10 years ago, as there is more people on earth than 10 years ago. There gotta be some failers, because there is failers everywhere in everything.

I do agree on most of the things you've said but T.I. is not actually bad, most of his songs actually do have meaning.

Many rappers are complete fakes. Another rant on todays rap: it's **** off the top of their head for money. Most of it DOESN'T HAPPEN.

Off-topic: Andrew you're on your own leet list? Rofl.

Wu Tang Clan is legit.
Texas rap is legit.

Mainstream Lil Wayne is not legit.
Old School/Mixtape Weezy is legit.
