Here are some commonly misspelled words here on Dodian. These ones I hate more than anything!

Bad/Badly

Bad is an adjective; badly is an adverb
Brad feels bad. (Brad is sick. The adjective bad describes the subject, which is Brad)
The dog smells bad. (The dog stinks)
The dog smells badly. (His sense of smell is almost gone; he is not good at smelling)

Good/Well

Good is an adjective; well is an adverb.
Louise feels good. (Louise is healthy, perhaps even energetic)
The dog smells well. (He is good at smelling things. Maybe he's a bloodhound?)

Note: When well means healthy, it is an adjective; I fell well.

Two, To, and Too

Two is a number word for one plus one.
Too has two uses; used for emphasis.
That's too bad.

Or means "also".
I'd like to go too.

To is a preposition or infinitive (most often used as)
I want to eat and to go to the mall.

Your versus You're

Your is the possessive pronoun: Lift your seat cushion.
You are: You're coming with us, aren't you?

There, Their, and They're

The word there designates place or is used as an expletive to begin a sentence.
Look at the Tiger over there!
There must be some bear cubs inside the den.

The word their is the possessive pronoun.
They all received their diplomas.

In contrast, they're means "they are".
They're all ready to go.

Whose versus Who's

The pronoun form whose often words like an adjective, as in:
I don't know anyone whose coat that could be.

Who's means "who is".
Anyone who's still in there at dusk will be stuck there overnight.

Than versus Then

Than is used in comparisons:
I am taller than you are.

In contrast, then is used to refer to time:
Then I saw what you meant.

Please take your time and make sure these small mistakes don't go unnoticed. Remember: If you do not notice them, somebody else will, I can guarantee you that.

Masuraki this is a kids forum, is that not obvious?

You should know by now, that this will not help at all. This is no different then trying to censor prohibited language. It's a worthless idea\post and it's not going to help. Most real writers know the use of correct grammar, punctuation and the use of a language.

If this is a kids forum, that would mean they are not familiar with most of this stuff, am I not correct?

Most "real" writers, most players here are not real writers and have not covered these basic points when writing. If you say that this is so worthless, then why do I still see over half the community using the wrong forms of the words I listed above in about 2/3 of the submissions in the Literary Art section?

It's worthless because no one is going to listen. Maybe 1/100 members.

Then those 1/100 members will benefit from it.

Ok, sorry if you thought I was trying to bash you. I wasn't trying to make it like that.

I had said maybe. ;)

As long as it's readable, who gives a ****?

As far as I'm concerned, even though I do type correctly; this isn't an English class, and you aren't my teacher.

Obviously. If you don't want to follow it fine, I don't care.

Then what's the point in posting it? To make people who do not type accordingly to your statutes feel insolent?

If you'd look at some of the submissions in the Literary Arts section then you'd see why I am posting this.

It is for those individuals who are trying to receive Literary Artist; the most common mistakes that are often missed.

Read Spot - Do you even know how many times I have repeated myself on this topic already?

Too many, this will help them before they make one of these mistakes.

Tell them that then. No reason to go basting about telling everyone. Even though it can be helpful, it seems harsh.

It's just for those individuals wondering if they are using these correctly, I have seen too many submissions with these simple mistakes.

Please do not double post; it's against the rules.

On topic, nice guide, Colin. I'm sure this'll help those that commonly have these mistakes, seemingly not knowing that they're doing it.

Bad/Badly

Bad is an adjective; badly is an adverb
Brad feels bad. (Brad is sick. The adjective bad describes the subject, which is Brad)
The dog smells bad. (The dog stinks)
The dog smells badly. (His sense of smell is almost gone; he is not good at smelling)

This is also true with other adverbs and adjective

Patient is an adjective; pateiently is an adverb

Brad is patient (Brad can wait for whatever he is wishing to accomplish. The advejective (patient) describes Brad, the subject)
My dog is not very patient (He is very enerjetic and restless)
I've waited for the tickets very patiently. ( I am waiting for the tickets with a state of patience. I am acting with a state of patience)

That was difficult but it was the first Adjetive and adverb that went into my head
