Limerick - a nonsense poem.
It is made up of five lines. Lines 1,2 & 5 rhyme, while lines 3 & 4 rhyme. Have a pattern of metre & rhyme. Sometimes the word that ends the first line is repeated as the last word of the limerick.
Example : There was a young lady of Norway,
she casually sat in a doorway,
when the door squeezed her flat,
she exclaimed, "what was that?"
that courageous young lady if Norway.
Rhyme - words that sound the same.
Example : bubble, trouble.
sight, height, night.
Rhythm : natural beat of words. It affects the mood of the poem.
Example : "Are you on holiday?" one, two, three.
"please come out and play with me!"
Alliteration - using the same sound the beginnings of words.
Example : "Five friendly fish"
Assonance - Using the same vowel sounds in words which follor each other or are close together.
Example : "double trouble, twin in bubbles"
Syllables - a whole word or part of a word that contains one vowel sound.
Example : BA.NA.NA (3)
Haiku poems depend on syllables. Written in 3 lines.
