In order to mine you need to buy a bronze pickaxe from the general store in Yannile. After doing so leave Yannile and go north to the mining rocks, you'll always see people there.

The Furnace Is Next To The Bank, At The Anvils.

It's Called A ''Small Furnace''. It's In The Bank Side Corner ^^
