Wow, so apparently Obama is trying to do the universal healthcare plan. (Something we've probably all heard a little bit about already.) Yet, now there's a chance that families will get penalized for not getting it.
In my opinion, the problem that we're going to see with this is that some families just aren't going to be able to afford the insurance. Then what happens? They're going to have money that they can't afford to lose, taken away from them for something that they can't afford to pay for anyway.
I don't know. It all sounds a little weird to me. What do you guys think? Should we have universal healthcare? Or, should the public be penalized if they can't pay for it?

I think it should be our choice as to whether or not to have healthcare, even Obama shouldn't make that decision for us.
I think that people should choose if they want universal Healthcare or not.
The part about getting penalized is dumb, people should be able to choose freely, without being worried that they will get penalized if they don't use Universal Healthcare.

I think I may have worded it wrong when I said something. What he's basically saying is that you can either have insurance from a private company or from the government, but in the end you must be insured. If you're not, you get penalized. (Sorry, I messed it up when I typed it out the first time.)
Oh, in that case, it is ok, because everyone should have Healthcare, you never know when something life-threatening may happen.
Many people will probably go with private companies, as they have been around longer. But, we will have to see whet that Government offers for their Healthcare.

For future reference, I add that link so that way people understand more of what I'm talking about. ;)
And yeah, I see what you're saying. But in some cases, families can't afford the insurance. They just have to be really careful and try not to hurt themselves. And then when they get sick, they can't go to a doctor. There are also clinics that some of them can go to, but sometimes they'll only take you so far before they require insurance too. The problem is that with the economy the way it is, some families don't have the extra money for an insurance program.
And to think this all started with people not being able to pay off the money they borrowed from the bank.

The private companys will probably work with them. I doubt he would make someone pay for something they can't afford, and then penalize them when they didn't even have the money to afford the insurance to begin with,

That's kind of what it sounds like though...and we all know that our government isn't necessarily fair or considerate at times.

Aren't there downsides to that though? Like...for the healthcare professionals? I don't know if it is or not, that's why I'm asking. It just seems almost...too good to be true, you know?

Your healthcare should just be free, like Canada's :).

Are healthcare is perfectly fine. Our professionals are trained in your schools, its just our government pays for our healthcare.

yeah...but if there aren't enough doctors then..yeah. But what about if you have a serious medical issue? Like...idk, born with a birth defect or something? (I only say that 'cause I know I ended up costing an insurance company like, half a million or so.) Does that matter?

My mom got cancer like a couple years ago and she got all the medical attention she needed like right away.

Wow. That's awesome. Hm...idk, on one hand it sounds good, but those doctors are getting paid somehow you know? I don't know. I'm not really sure how all that works.

It's all about money in the U.S. there will never be free healthcare in America. If their is going to be free healthcare in the u.s. then all the healthcare companies are going to be billions of dollars in debt. The healthcare companies are paying off people in the government to keep people paying for healthcare so they won't lose money. It's all about us as a people to fight for this and stop making healthcare companies doing this to us. We must protest and do a lot because as a america in health we fail tbh. I knew this girl that died because she didn't have healthcare and they didn't treat her. America is bs when it comes to health, care more about money than people.

That is pretty stupid.
I heard a story of some parent not giving there kid healthcare because it was against there religion.
The kid ended up getting cancer, and the mom wouldn't help him, so he died.
Although, it still should be the peoples' decisions not the presidents.
That is pretty stupid.

Would you rather strictly follow your religion and die or go to the hospital and survive?

lol that's stupid healthcare wasn't invented back in religion times. Show me a religious book saying "tho shall not own healthcare". :P
This incident happened recently, not long ago.
Why don't you ask Boylight were he found the link so you can read about it.

I've heard of people not getting medical treatment because of their religious beliefs too. I feel like it has something to do with, they believe that their sickness was brought on by their sin. So, if their god forgives them, or it's in His will, they'll be cured. Otherwise, they're being punished for their sin that they feel they committed. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that sounds right.

You know what sounds better? People in America should stop being dumbasses and spending their money on drugs and alcohol and then asking their president to fix it all. AKA : White and back trash

This is EXACTLY what I'm talking about. There are people that can't even afford insurance, but our government is going to require them to get it? Even when they can't afford it in the first place?
And Nova, not everyone is like that. I mean...economy sucks right now. There are a lot of people that can't afford things like insurance.

Well, I know with my family, my stepdad is our only income and he works on a farm. Who is also suffering from the economic crisis and such. So, we actually can't afford the health insurance for my mom, stepdad, and I.
Luckily for me, well...I guess, since my dad is going into the army, I'm going to be issued a military dependent card. So, I'll have health insurance through the military program and such.
I agree people should have health care coverage, because if you get hurt or something and you dont have health care, it will probably cost you a lot of money.
