It wouldn't work because you need to be connected to a server. A server has channels, I'm connected to the server, but not it's channels.

For whatever reason you may not be connecting to the correct port.
Try /server irc.dodian.com 6667
|

It still doesn't work.
My problem isn't connecting to the server. I get on the server just fine. Just for some reason I can't join any channels. At all.

That's weird because it should automatically put you in #dodian
Have you tried joining other channels besides Dodian?
