Lightbulb Scanlines & Userbar Tutorial

The Scanlines Tutorial

Make a canvas the size of 3x3 & transparent, and zoom in by 3200%
Then you should grab your pencil tool and draw from 1 corner to the other, Eg.

Now go to Edit > Define Pattern > Name it what you like > Save.

The Userbar Tutorial

Make a new canvas the size of 350x19 with a white background.

Next you should grab the colour you want as your background and fill your background in.

Next double click your background layer and then just click ok.
And then you should right click on your Layer 0 and click Blending Options.

Next tick Pattern Overlay and then you should see your scanlines you made tick them
And then set the opacity to 18 or 13 whatever you like best.

Then press CTRL + N to make a new layer.
Then grab your Elliptical Marquee Tool, just right click on the Rectangular Marquee Tool.

Now you should do something like this.

After you have done something like that fill the Dotted lines in with White
When that is done press CTRL + D to deselect that, and then set the opacity to 40%

Now that bit is done.
This next part is just adding text to your document.
The text i use is, visitor - Search - dafont.com
Download that.

When downloaded and imported to your fonts.
Select the text tool and write some text on (anything you want)

When you have done that, place it where you want it on your canvas.
Then same as we did with layer 0, Right click the text layer, Blending Options, but this time tick Stroke and set that to 1px in black.

And Your Finished

This is my finished piece.

Thanks
More tutorials coming soon.

I reckon you're Mistic from RuneServer. Nice tutorial. It'll help players out, but I don't really have a talent for drawing on the computer.

I see some things that need fixing or can be improved:
  • Instead of using layer effects to add the scan-lines, go to "Edit > Fill... > Under 'Contents:' make sure 'Use' is set to pattern > find the pattern you want, change the opacity to what you want' - Bam, you're done
  • The second thing, is that 'Ctrl + N' creates a whole new document/creation/etc. - 'Shift + Ctrl + N' creates a new layer
  • For making the ellipses(shine effect), after selecting the area you want to make white, make sure your foreground color is set to white, then hit 'Alt + Backspace'
