Ok, need some Adware related help

So, I'm pretty sure my computer has some adware/spyware on it. It will randomly open up some fake virus scan and say that there's like 25 harmful things found. But when I run a full computer scan I get 0 harmful things found. So I'm pretty sure it's just trying to get me to buy the fake virus protection it's trying to sell me.

I usually fix these problems by a system restore. But, for some reason my computer doesn't have any points in time where it can restore to. And since my virus scan doesn't pick up any things wrong with the computer, I can't remove or quarantine the harmful things. So, I don't know what to do >.>

Any help?

Whats the virus scan window thing called?

Like Win 7 somethin.

I know it's not real because I've never downloaded anything with that name and I know it wasn't already installed on my computer when I got it.

I got it 5 times yesterday. avast! said as soon as it popped up said "harmful content detected" I ran a full scan of my computer overnight and found nothing. I'm stumped.
