When implementing jewelry crafting and enchantment, I believe rings should be focused on advantages that will stimulate the collection of resources required for consumption skills.

Here are some examples that could be utilized, however any similar benefits can, and should, work toward the same purpose:

Sapphire ring > Ring of Chum
When fishing, catch rates will be increased by 15% for 100 catches before crumbling into dust.

Emerald ring > Ring of Regrowth
Adding herbs to potions will have a 1/5 chance of not consuming the herb for 200 potions before crumbing into dust. This will consume a charge with each herb used regardless of whether its effect is activated.

Ruby ring > Ring of Forging
Smelting iron ore will increase the success rate to 100% for 280 smelts before crumbing into dust (same as OSRS/RS3 but with double the charges)

Diamond ring > Ring of Abyss
Each essence used while runecrafting will have a 1/5 chance of producing double runes. After 250 successful double crafts, the ring will crumble into dust.

Dragonstone ring > Ring of Dragonfire
While woodcutting, 1/5 logs will be instantly consumed by fire, granting the appropriate firemaking experience. During firemaking, there will be a 1/5 chance of "a perfect burn" which will grant 25% addition experience based on the logs used. After 500 successful burns, either through woodcutting or through firemaking, the ring will crumble into dust.

Onyx Ring > Ring of Coal
While mining coal, there will be a 50% chance that this ring will be charged with a bonus ore; this will grant the appropriate experience as if an additional coal had been mined. Coal cannot be manually added to the ring, though it may be discharged directly into your bank at anytime - while in the bank, of course. At 5000 charges, the ring will become "saturated" (with a different item ID) and will then be tradable with its charges. New charges cannot be added to the saturated ring until it has been manually discharged or all its charges have been consumed, at which point it will return to its unsaturated item ID. When smelting bars with this ring equipped, the required coal will be consumed directly from the charges in the ring. As onyx is a relatively rare and expensive item, this ring will never crumble into dust.

NOTE: These are some rough ideas with even rougher numbers that will surely require balancing overtime. The concept remains the same regardless of the details, however; that is to say, items which increase the input of much needed consumable resources into the game.
