One of the best techniques to use is flattery.
Talk to him about him, ask him how his weekend was or ask questions like "Are you into Basketball, do you like such and such a player" etc.
He should be a professional though and treat everyone the same, if you seriously think he's unfairly being biased towards other students, take it up with one of his superiors?

Good idea.
It's obviously just cause the student is sleepin' with him, that's why he likes that one a lot, or that he's plain stupid.

i don't know about kissing ass to a teacher, i kinda interrupt every class i have, i yell over the class, i have straight A's, and i get along with all of my teachers 
, but well, that's just me ^^
be as mean as possible is in my case , but well, you have to act and talk to them as whom they are, and just talk to them as they were one of you, not as if they were some1 smarter or supirior than any1 else, they're still human, and humans are all the same -_-

Yeah I hate teachers who show favoritism.
So I was doing a presentation in history, I volunteered to go first (to get on her good side), and then I did a good presentation I thought, I spent over 10 hours making the powerpoint, followed every rule.
I ended up getting an exact 80% because I had
"Too much information, made it hard to understand"
But then the teachers daughters best friend went up there, opened up her front page (just a picture and the name of the guy) and she said "Oh wow, I have a feeling this is going to be a 100%"
She ended up getting a 100%, and I ended up sleeping in class for the rest of the week, that 80% on that huge assignment brought me down from an A to a mid B, so I am just ****ed and will get no higher then a B in that class.

This one guy teacher will always treat girl students better. Me and my two other friends (one being a girl) were late for class and we didn't feel like going to ISS (In school suspension) so we were going to see if he would let us in and just let us sit in his class. He let the girl in the group go in, but me and my guy friend, were not allowed.
