Well there are a few things I am just starting to notice about my grandma. A facebook friend had a funny photo where it had black dolls cheaper than the white dolls at some store. So I looked up on google "Racist dolls". I saw a familiar image that covered more than half of the page.

I realized that they were named "Golly dolls", and in every picture, the description had "racist", "banned", "offensive", etc.

When I'm at her house, she has made a few racist jokes, there's never been a black person in her house, and as well as that, she is a very southern white woman. They did not seem like that much of a deal until I realized that she has many of these dolls laying around her house.

My grandma isn't mean at all, and very friendly/caring.. but I mean, is she racist?

Looks like she never gave up the civil war, she's still a southstate woman that would rather have black people pick her cotton than have them inside for some tea.

You should ask her what she thinks about black people. :|

Well, I don't think she would have to be racist, yet given her Southern stereotype, I would find it hard for her also not to be racist. Most southern "old folks" still live in the time of when blacks were slaves. My grandfather is the same way. He doesn't refer to them as equals in any sense, which I find offensive because of the times we now live in.

I'm racist to some degree, as are some others. I don't favor the black people who act like complete wanna-be "gang-bangers." I'm a more stereotypical type of racist, while older generations are full-on racist to the African-American race, with no exceptions. I hope this doesn't offend you, but I don't have a doubt that she is in fact racist.

Take her to a ****ty restaurant with black waiters and bad service, you'll find out for sure then.

Do you dislike them because they're black, or because their behaviour bothers you? Would this also apply to white people (or any other race) who behave like this? What you said doesn't sound like racism. You may just not like the "ghetto" behaviour.

Nice racism ^^.

Anyway, being from a balkans country, people out there have barely seen black people in there life and are all racist about it, but I take as a joke and laugh with them, and I myself enjoy racist jokes, but I'm nowhere near a racist! Also for the black dolls, I doubt she would push it that far, and besides why would she possess them if she hates black people...

I think you may be right. I also dislike those that act "ghetto." Whatever the term, I described my feelings. Sorry for using an improper term. Not sure what to call it other than a personal bias.

The image of the doll has become the subject of heated debate. One aspect of the debate in its favour argues that it should be preserved and passed on as a cherished cultural artifact and childhood tradition, while opponents argue it should be retired as a relic of an earlier time when racism against those of African descent was blatant.

Read my first post, I explained what I found out about the dolls.
