The news that Andrus Veerpalu has tested positive for HGH has drawn frenzied comment from the Estonian press, with many people condemning the man before looking in detail at the science surrounding his controversial positive test for the growth hormone. Odd-Bjorn Hjelmeseth, Johan Olsson and Per Eloffson have wasted no time in condeming Andrus without a fair hearing.In the United States, where college footballers to professional athletes have been alleged to use HGH, testing for the substance is banned – players and sporting unions alike are not convinced of the reliability of the test and are concerned about the impact of a false positive on an innocent athlete.
